Restoration of the Dining Hall which was damaged by fire and a new Atrium consisting of Restaurants, Bar and Student facilities.

In 1983 de Blacam and Meagher were appointed by Trinity College to review college development to make plans for new buildings to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the foundation of the College in 1992. Following a number of fires caused by arson in 1984, the Architects were commissioned to restore the Dining Hall and re-plan the College dining and social facilities adjacent for staff and students. The fire damage was compounded by water damage both of which resulted in the replacement of all interior plaster, wood paneling, floors and furniture. The project presented a major task of restoration and the opportunity to improve the piecemeal character of the complex.

A new Atrium or meeting place was designed in the location of the former kitchens of the Dining hall. The Atrium is surrounded by student facilities, Buttery bars, dining hall, private dining rooms and used for all sorts of social functions including theatre productions.

The design commenced in early Summer 1984. The contract was completed in 1986.
